It's always been the chopped chicken salad no raisins with an extra basin of sauce and focaccia. Yes, basin. Because when we order from here we commit to that sauce for a couple days after. It's so so good!!
I've been on a Nicola's Kitchen food delivery binge for the last few months. I initially tried their food because I saw a Chicken Sesame dish on their menu. That was my all-time favorite dish from the now defunct Louise's Trattoria. I've been searching for a tasty facsimile for years. I found it. I've since ordered it probably 8 times. They also have a corn chowder that is out of this world. One of the best chowders or soups I've ever had. I'm absolutely addicted. Recently, I've branched out to other entrees with delicious success. Fettuccine with spicy sausage is fantastic. The Spinach Fettuccine w/Rosemary Chicken is very tasty. They have an interesting take on a Chicken Satay appetizer, very generous portions of grilled chicken and an zesty sauce that I wouldn't classify as your traditional peanut sauce but it is good nonetheless. Portion sizes are very good and a fair value for the money. I love how they include a container filled with delicious, warm focaccia bread. They don't skimp on anything! I'm looking forward to continuing to eat my way through the rest of the menu. Since I've only ordered via food delivery service I can't comment on the decor and ambiance of the restaurant but I'm sure the food would taste even better eaten hot out of the kitchen. I look forward to visiting the restaurant in the near future. If it isn't abundantly obvious, I highly recommend this spot. Enjoy!
Delicious. I had a great salad and their bread, I ate the whole basket. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. I recommend it to everyone
I am always on the lookout for a good family Italian restaurant, and I think I have finally found my favorite. Nicola's Kitchen is located on Ventura Boulevard and Peralta, just west of De Soto. There are so many good things about this restaurant: - very reasonable prices. - extremely generous portions (be ready to share or take home) - extensive menu. - sweet interior and lovely patio for outdoor dining. - dog friendly patio. - friendly waitstaff. - delicious wines and very good prices for wine and beer. - scrumptious food. - yummy bread. - cute wall art in the restrooms! I've tried several of their dishes, and these are my top recommendations: - calzone with mushroom, onion, and meatball. The calzone's dough is crunchy and puffy and deliciously baked. One of the best calzones I've ever had. - chopped salad. Huge portion, very fresh, refreshing, and well balanced. - good old spaghetti and meatballs. Their meatballs are delicious and all beef, their sauce is perfect, and you just can't go wrong with this dish. They also have a very extensive breakfast and brunch menu, which I haven't tried yet. That's the next step. Be aware: they close early, at 8:00 PM. Plan accordingly. Good family Italian restaurants are harder to find that you might think. This was a lucky gem to stumble upon. definitely worth the drive from Studio City to Woodland Hills.
The Service: Wonderful service! Very attentive. They have been in business for over 20 or 30 years. Many local customers. The Food: Love their chopped salad! So many different ingredients. My favorites is the pine nuts which adds great texture. By the way, their homemade dressing is to die for!! Just a little bit sweetness, I think it is honey mustard? It is secret recipe. Their freshly baked bread is so good! I can't help to keep asking for more. The Parking: Parking at the back, they do validation. Street metered parking.
As unassuming a restaurant decor as you will ever see...you get the feeling that you stepped into the lobby of a brightly lit laundromat but with tables and chairs. No matter, the food offerings - across an impossibly wide array - are all so scrumptious you'll want to come back again to try something else...just to see if they can pull it off as expertly as the last thing you ordered. And, the thing is, THEY CAN! Imagine eating your way around the menu from THAI PASTA to GARLIC MASHED POTATOES to STEAMED CLAMS to a perfect FLATIRON STEAK all the way back to hard core Italiano LINGUINI w/ MEATBALLS. First off, the "bread" that kicks off the meal is a steaming hot, outrageously delicious, doughy "slice-like" concoction basking in garlicky glory...of which I can knock off a basket in about 2 minutes flat. From there, hit up a nice wine-by-the-glass or a frosty cold IPA. They've got a serviceable selection. I posted pictures in this review of our empty plates...because every time we go, that's how the plates end up looking, everything is so good. This time it was the BOWTIE PESTO, the W.C. VEGETARIAN PIZZA and the FETTUCCINI WITH SPICY SAUSAGE (that's "assuage" sideways for you anagram nuts). And we mowed them all! Don't get me wrong, the ambiance/decor isn't horrible, it just doesn't lend itself to the lights out delicacies comin' outta Nicola's kitchen. So dress down relax and settle in, then let the food exploration party begin.
